Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, opened up about her struggle on the greens at The Annika 2025. She was invited to the LPGA Tour event on a sponsor exemption, but had a tough time on the greens. She played a round of 13-over 83 and settled in the last position on the leaderboard.

Trump struggled to make a single birdie in the first round of The Annika on Thursday. Speaking of her game after the round, she said she was “nervous.” She said (via ASAP Sports):

"I was definitely more nervous than I expected, but I thought I hit a lot of great shots out there. I hit a lot of good shots just to the wrong spots. And obviously being, you know, my first LPGA event, now I kind of know how it goes. "I felt like a little out of order in the beginning but I kind of got it going afterwards. Yeah, I mean, I learned a lot. It was amazing. I had a great time out there. Yeah, didn't play the way I wanted obviously, but for my first event ever I think I played pretty good," she added.

Kai Trump started the outing with a bogey on the 10th hole and then added three more bogeys in a row. On the 14th, she ended up making a par, but then again had a tough time on the 15th and ended up making a bogey on it.

She carded a bogey on the 17th, and on the back nine, as well, made a bogey on the first tee hole, followed by a double bogey. She made another double bogey on the fifth, and with two more bogeys, she ended with a round of 13-over.

The tournament features some top-ranked LPGA Tour golfers such as Nelly Korda, Charley Hull, and many others. Hull arrived late at the event and had no time to practice on the greens, but she still managed to play a fantastic round of 3-under 67 and settled in a tie for fourth place. Korda tied for 54th place. The tournament has a cutline set after two rounds.

Kai Trump reflects on how she stayed focused on difficult shots

Kai Trump had a tough time throughout the day at The Annika 2025, and in the post-round press conference, she was asked how she managed to stay focused while struggling to play a good shot. She said (via ASAP Sports):

"Me and my caddie, Allan, we were talking about where we're going to eat after the round. Really did not even think about the shot at all. Once we kind of saw them start moving we're like, all right, it's time to get back in the zone. "Didn't really talk about anything golf related. You don't want to stand over a shot and think long about it. You just want to go up there and do your routine and hit the shot," he added.

Kai Trump has Allan Kournikova for this week at The Annika as her caddie. He is the half-brother of tennis star Anna Kournikova.

After the opening round, Kai Trump settled 12 strokes below the projected cutline, which is 1-over. It would be interesting to see how things unfold for her on Friday.
