K'Lavon Chaisson is determined to make his mark in Mike Vrabel’s defense

Heading into his sixth season in the NFL, K'Lavon Chaisson has a whole new mindset and work ethic to begin training camp with the New England Patriots.

The former first-round pick has struggled to live up to the lofty expectations the league had for him out of the gate, but is fresh off a career year, and eager to grow.

Reporters at Patriots training camp have noticed Chaisson dominating drills each day, even showing out against fourth overall rookie Will Campbell during 11v11 periods.

Chaisson has shown new head coach Mike Vrabel his willingness to put in the work, hoping to earn a starting job rushing off the edge to begin the year.

#Patriots DE K’Lavon Chaisson on his new mindset:

“Every day. Like I workout every single day. I don’t skip… I quit the ‘what if’ mindset… I went into that mode like, just got all in with this s**t.”

Through Chaisson’s four years in Jacksonville, the former LSU Tiger struggled to string together consistent production.

During the 2024 offseason, he signed and was later released by the Carolina Panthers before agreeing on a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders and appearing in all 17 games. Through that stretch, Chaisson totaled five sacks, earning a one-year deal to head to New England.

Vrabel has multiple proven pieces in his edge group, with Harold Landry, Anfernee Jennings and Keion White all deserving of playing time. Chaisson is doing everything in his power to make sure that there is a role for him to see the field as well.

Even with the Pats having a shortened walk-thru practice, K'Lavon Chaisson stayed late to put himself through a 20-25 minute workout on one of the hottest days of the year.

He talked about why with the media:

Chaisson has all of the tools to be a great pass rusher in the NFL, and having Vrabel as a mentor could make all the difference.

As a former five-star recruit and first-round pick, Chaisson has had to learn how to deal with not being a shoo-in for a roster spot. Although that understanding may still be new, he seems to be making all of the right decisions to get back in the spotlight.
