Justin Fields' time as New York Jets starter likely over, says NFL insider

The New York Jets are on the brink of a crucial decision being made that will shape the rest of their season. After an 0-6 start and a brutal start to their Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers, head coach Aaron Glenn pulled Justin Fields in favor of Tyrod Taylor. Taylor finished the game going 10-of-22 and threw two interceptions.

Despite the two picks, Taylor pushed the ball downfield and averaged 5.7 yards per attempt compared to Fields' 3.8. This led to many wondering if Taylor would take over as the starter going forward. And while that decision hasn't been made, Rich Cimini reports that Glenn is leaning towards starting Taylor.

"Woody Johnson said the QB decision is 'completely up to the coach.' Aaron Glenn hasn't announced his plans yet, but he's moving toward naming Tyrod Taylor his starter, sources tell ESPN," Cimini reports.

The Jets are averaging a league-worst 143.9 passing yards per game. And while Fields hasn't thrown an interception, a large reason why is because he isn't taking any chances downfield, which in turn puts a lid on the offense and what they are capable of.

New York gave Fields a two-year, $40 million contract in March with $30 million guaranteed. It would be a big stain on first-year general manager Darren Mougey's portfolio if they give up on Fields after seven games.
