Justin Fields is quickly become the one everyone listens to in the New York Jets’ locker room. Within just a few months, Fields has gained the trust and respect of his teammates.

In his latest column in the New York Post, posted on July 12, Jets Insider, Brian Costello mentions how Fields is a big change from Aaron Rodgers, the former Jets quarterback, who is known for being confident, outspoken, and grabbing headlines.

Costello writes:

"Fields is a much different leader than Aaron Rodgers, his predecessor at the position. Coach Aaron Glenn has praised the “quiet confidence” Fields projects. There was nothing quiet about Rodgers."

In reference to Brian Costello's statements , New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn took a liking to his new quarterback Justin Fields from the moment the two started working together.

Glenn and Fields are entering their first season with the Jets, and their relationship seems to have gotten off to a strong start.

During the Jets' first week of OTAs in May, Glenn heaped praise on the former Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers playmaker's authenticity, which he said wasn't easy to find in every player.

“I take to him because he is authentic and he’s himself,” Glenn said of Fields. “It’s one thing that players can pick out is someone that’s fake, and there’s nothing about him that’s fake. So, I love everything about the player, I love everything about the way he carries himself.”

Justin Fields played 10 games last season, starting six. He posted a 4-2 record in those matchups, completing 106 of 161 pass attempts for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. He also carried the football 62 times, tallying 289 yards and five touchdowns.

Justin Fields offers mobility, something former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers lacked.

Aaron Glenn seemingly took a shot at Aaron Rodgers while praising Justin Fields

In the same press conference, Glenn made a rather striking remark, which many assumed to be a shot at Aaron Rodgers.

Glenn praised Justin Fields' work ethic and ability to stay grounded.

“He’s not trying to be the celebrity quarterback, he’s just trying to be himself,” Glenn said. “And whatever comes with that, it comes with it. So, he’s not trying to impress anybody. He’s going out there and he’s busting his (expletive) trying to be the best quarterback he can be for this team. Everybody sees that — and I like that.”

Rodgers had a rather controversial exit from the Jets, capped off by his meeting with Glenn.

On the Pat McAfee Show in April, Rodgers described his two years with the Jets as a "debacle" and said Glenn had informed him that they were moving on from him as quarterback.

"What I thought was gonna be a couple-hour meeting turned into like a 15-minute meeting, and I walked out of there ... I don't want any part of that. It was already a debacle."

Rodgers' former teammate James Jones defended the Super Bowl winner during an episode of "The Facility" and called out Glenn for his "celebrity quarterback" comments.

"This is foul, and it's a shot," Jones said. "And the main reason why it's foul and it's a shot is because you just had a four-time MVP, celebrity, superstar quarterback. Whether he played well or not, that is what you had in the building.

Rodgers is now with the Steelers and will get his first matchup against Glenn's Jets in Week 1 of the 2025 season.
