The New York Jets will be without their starting quarterback, Justin Fields, in Week 3.
Head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters on Wednesday that Fields has already been ruled out for the upcoming contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he suffered a concussion in Week 2.
The fact that Fields has already been ruled out suggests it was a significant concussion. Now, the focus for Fields is on coming back for Week 4.
With Fields sidelined, veteran Tyrod Taylor will take the reins under center. Taylor was inserted into the game in Week 2 following Fields' exit and completed 7-of-11 passes for 56 yards and one touchdown to one interception. He also added three carries for 21 yards.
Fields was fantastic in the Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and if not for a 60-yard bomb from Chris Boswell, the Jets would've won the game.
Fields completed 16-of-22 passes for 218 yards, rushed for 48 yards on 12 carries and scored three total touchdowns in the season-opening contest.
However, Fields came crashing back down to Earth in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, as he completed just 3-of-11 passes for 287 yards and tallied 49 yards on the ground.
The good news for the Jets is that Taylor is a very capable backup, so he still gives them a chance to win. The biggest concern with Taylor is that he's had several injury issues over the years.
