New Portland Trail Blazers guard Jrue Holiday is reportedly unhappy about his new home.
Heavy Sports senior NBA columnist Steve Bulpett wrote that a source indicated Holiday is"pissed" about the Boston Celtics trading him to the Blazers and, "he does not want to go there."
“Now, if he winds up staying there, I’m sure he’ll be the professional he’s always been and make a positive contribution,” the source reportedly told Bulpett. “But he’s not happy with this deal. I’ll be surprised if Portland doesn’t move him on if they can, because right now he does not want to go there."
“I’m sure if he has to go to Portland, he’ll end up going and it’ll be OK, but right now they want to be somewhere else. But with that contract, it’s not going to be that easy.”
Holiday, a 35-year-old, two-time NBA all-star, was traded this week to Portland for guard Anfernee Simons and two future second-round draft picks.
Last April, the veteran guard signed a four-year, $134.4 million extension with the Celtics that will pay him $32.4 million, $34.8 million and $37.2 million over the next three seasons.
The move seems to coincide with Boston's Tuesday trade of Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Georges Niang and a second-round pick in a three-team deal.
Given the postseason injury to superstar Jayson Tatum, it appears as though the Celtics are looking to shed salary in what could be a soft reset season for the franchise.
As for Portland, the team posted dramatically-improved defensive metrics in the second half of last season.
TheHoliday acquisition could be a sign that head coach Chauncey Billups wants to lean in to his young team's blossoming identity, or he could be a piece Portland moves as part of a larger vision.
If, in fact, Holiday is unhappy, they may be forced to move him soon.
