JP Saxe is using his platform for good.

The singer-songwriter is gearing up to release his new song, “Safe,” on Jan. 24, and has transformed what was going to be a single release show into a benefit concert for the thousands of people affected by the devastating Los Angeles fires.

The “NY for LA” show will take place just two days before the song’s release, on Jan. 22, at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, with all proceeds getting donated to Mutual Aid LA. Tickets are currently on sale.

“WTF is the point of a song about the way I wanna make the people I love feel ‘safe’ if we don’t actually do some shit,” the singer wrote on Instagram on Thursday (Jan. 16). “So Wednesday night at Bowery Ballroom. All proceeds going to people affected by the fires. I’ll play you new songs, maybe some friends pull up (if you want to be involved in any way, in person or otherwise, please hit me). We’ll raise a bunch of money and show some NY love to our LA family.”

The concert announcement comes shortly after Saxe shared a GoFundMe page for his friend and collaborator, Ryan Marrone, who lost his house in the destruction. At the time of publication, the fund had reached more than $96,000 in donations.

The California wildfires first broke out Jan. 7 in Pacific Palisades, rapidly spreading through L.A. faster than first responders could subdue the flames. More blazes later broke out in other areas of the city, with CNN reporting that at least 25 people have died so far in the destruction. At the time of publication, Palisades Fire has burned nearly 24,000 acres and is 31% contained, while the Eaton Fire burned more than 14,000 acres and is 65% contained.
