Jose Mourinho fires Premier League warning to Viktor Gyokeres ahead of Arsenal switch

7 hours ago 1

Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres has been a top transfer prospect this summer, with Arsenal being the frontrunners in the race to acquire his signature.

While Gyokeres' transfer saga has seen its share of twists and turns, it seems to be nearing its end with Arsenal reportedly sealing a deal with the Portuguese club worth £64m ($86m).

Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Sporting to bring Gyokeres to the Emirates, and he is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Gunners soon.

Now, Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho has shared his verdict on Gyokeres' potential move to the Premier League.

What did Jose Mourinho say about Viktor Gyokeres signing for Arsenal?

While speaking to Channel 11 in Portugal, Mourinho hailed Gyokeres as a 'great player' but also claimed that the Swedish star will find it harder to compete against English clubs.

"He's a great player. I have no doubt. But Sporting had a way of playing very much around him, very adapted. I don't know what Hugo Viana and Ruben [Amorim] initially thought; he's a player with great potential. But in England, he'll play against stronger teams, better players," as per GOAL.

Mourinho also clarified that, despite rumors, Fenerbahce were not pursuing Gyokeres for a potential transfer, and added,

"Unfortunately, of the 3,400 lies that have been told about the transfer market, one of them is that he's going to Fenerbahce. Unfortunately... So many lies, so much interest, so many people working for agents, for clubs... It's a war that's not my own."

Since joining Sporting in 2023, Gyokeres has netted 97 goals and provided 28 assists in 102 appearances for the Primeira Liga side.
