Jordan Travis retires at 24: Injury-plagued Jets QB makes surprise decision to end NFL career

7 hours ago 1

Former Florida State and Jets quarterback Jordan Travis is medically retiring from the NFL at 24 years old.

Travis began playing for Louisville in college in 2018. After playing in only three games and redshirting, he transferred to Florida State in 2019. Travis bided his time and used additional eligibility from COVID-19 to play five seasons for the Seminoles. He had led them to an undefeated 11-0 record before suffering a serious leg injury.

Even with the injury, New York used a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on the quarterback. There was hope he would be able to recover last season, but it never happened for the young quarterback.

Travis penned a letter to fans and the Jets letting them know of his retirement.

He says that he gave everything to the rehab process, but his leg just wouldn't respond. The quarterback stated that after several conversations with medical professionals, he was advised to retire.

Travis had only been in the league for one year, but spent it rehabbing an injury he suffered at the end of his collegiate career.

In 2023, Travis had led the Seminoles to a 10-0 start heading into a game against North Alabama. This was the tune-up game for Florida State before rivalry week against Florida the next week. Typically, teams will play their starters in these games, and then take them out early once they get out to a big lead.

The worst-case scenario for Travis and Florida State happened. The quarterback suffered a bad-looking injury in the first quarter of the game. He had to be carted off, and he missed the remainder of the season.

Despite the Seminoles finishing the season undefeated, the College Football Playoff committee cited his injury as the reason they were keeping the 'Noles out of that year's top four. Unfortunately for Travis, his game against North Alabama will be the final of his playing career.
