Jordan Spieth isn’t losing sleep over his fading Ryder Cup hopes. With the Open Championship underway at Royal Portrush, the three-time major winner made it clear he’d be fine missing out on Team USA this year.
Ranked 26th in Ryder Cup points, Spieth would need a captain’s pick from Keegan Bradley to earn a spot. But he’s realistic about the odds. “It was a far-fetched goal,” he admitted to Golf Channel. “I started late, missed elevated events, and didn’t know how I'd bounce back from injury.”
That injury? A damaged left wrist from 2023 that required surgery and sidelined him until February. Add in a recent rib issue that turned into back spasms, forcing his first-ever PGA Tour withdrawal at the Travelers, and it’s clear why Spieth’s season has been bumpy.

Still, there’s reason for hope. He’s 48th in the FedEx Cup standings, right on the playoff bubble. A strong showing at The Open could secure his spot in next season’s signature events and end 2025 on a high note.
For now, Spieth tees it up in the first two rounds with Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg, aiming to put all Ryder Cup noise aside and focus on what’s in front of him. And if Bethpage Black happens without him? He says that’s okay, too.
He's ready for Royal Portrush.
