Jordan Love reveals impressive trait shown by Packers receiver in camp

The Green Bay Packers did something they had not done in over two decades: select a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft. Green Bay selected Matthew Golden as the 23rd overall, becoming the first wide receiver picked in the first round by the Packers since Javon Walker in 2002.

As a result, there's a little pressure for Golden to live up to being that player who breaks the Packers' trend of not selecting a wideout for over 20 years. One way the University of Texas product can have a productive rookie season is by hitting the ground running in training camp and forming a connection with quarterback Jordan Love.

On Tuesday, after practice, Love spoke to the media and shared his first impressions of Golden as the two look to develop the relationship needed for a successful quarterback-wide receiver connection.

"I think for him, he's been doing a great job," Love told reporters. "He's been in the book, and he's been getting more comfortable with knowing where he needs to be. So let's just keep building that.

"But I think the playmaking ability is there—you see that. You know, when the ball's in the air, he's going to go get it and make that play. So let's just continue to hone in on little details."

Golden is coming off three seasons with Texas, where he played in 36 games, recording 134 receptions, 1,975 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns. With Christian Watson recovering from a torn ACL, there will be an opportunity for Golden to be a reliable target for Love to start the season and garner confidence to begin his rookie year.

Love will have many targets to throw the football this season, so it will be interesting to see how Golden's first year in the NFL unfolds, whether it's one where he's making an impact as a rookie or has many learning lessons.
