Jonathan Kuminga trade seen as unlikely after Warriors' latest move

With the NBA offseason being at the back end of its time, teams are starting to form their final rosters before the start of a new season.

With this being said, restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga's desire to move on from the Golden State Warriors isn't looking like it's going as planned.

Kuminga, a 22-year-old rising star in the NBA, has made it known that he's less interested in returning to the Warriors and instead would want to reach his full potential with a bigger role on a new team.

His options are limited as a restricted free agent, meaning he can negotiate with other teams, but the Warriors can match any offer that's given.

Kuminga believes that he deserves more than the two-year, $45 million deal that the Warriors have offered him. The deadline for Kuminga to get a deal or a qualifying offer signed is October 1.

A sign-and-trade with another team is also a possibility, but the Warriors have lost any interest after hearing the trade offers that have been made by teams like the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns.

"As a result of no value existing from other teams, in addition to wanting to bring Kuminga back with the idea of trading his full cap number down the road, the Dubs have cut off all talks of a potential sign-and-trade scenario," Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints said. "Despite the notion that he wants a fresh start and has declined several contract discussions from Golden State, the clearest path still points in the direction of Kuminga and the Dubs reuniting on a short-term contract."

With drama stirring between Kuminga and the Warriors all summer long, it seems that the forward will be staying put in Golden State for the 2025-26 season.
