Jon Stewart rips Dems for ‘caving’ on government shutdown: ‘I can’t f—ing believe it!’

Comedian Jon Stewart blasted Democratic senators for “caving” on the government shutdown without winning extended healthcare subsidies – yelling, “I can’t f—ing believe it!”

The “Daily Show” host tore into the eight Senate Democrats who broke with their party and agreed to vote yes on a bill to end the shutdown, which is the longest in history at 42 days.

“By the way, tonight’s show will be brought to you by: I can’t f—ing believe it!” Stewart said Monday during his opening monologue.

“And what, you ask, is ‘it’? Well, ‘it’ is the Democrats. You remember the Democrats? They shut down the government last month for a very particular reason.”

Stewart then played a compilation of Dems calling for an extension of Obamacare tax credits and vowing not to back down without a fight.

“Cave on the shutdown? Huh? Not this forceful, young, authentic Democratic party that hangs out down by the river,” Stewart said sarcastically.

“They f—ing caved on the shutdown! Not even a full week removed from the best election night results they’ve had in years,” he exclaimed.

The late-night host jabbed at Democrats for agreeing to a deal that lacked any promise to extend subsidies, but instead included a vote at a later date.

“Democrats, you sold out the entire shutdown not to get what you wanted, but for a promise to not get what you wanted later,” Stewart railed, adding that he couldn’t find that technique in “The Art of War.”

“I cannot f–ing believe it!” he added. “You had the wind at your back. Election victories all over the country.”

He shredded the promise of a Senate voice, since Democrats do not currently control the Senate.

“Do you even know how this s— works?” he exclaimed.

“Let’s just say that you managed to win a vote in the Senate, which you haven’t done in years. Do you know what happens then?” Stewart said.

He then grabbed a remote control and played clips from “Schoolhouse Rock!,” the cartoon series that teaches kids about the government.

“Let’s say you somehow convince old Cowlick McBabyFace,” Stewart said, with a photo of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), “to hold that House of Representatives vote and you win that one as well. Guess what happens then?”

He played the song “I’m Just a Bill” to mock the Dems’ understanding of Congress.

“The president,” Stewart said. “Yeah, that f—ing guy…Democrats, you gave up the only leverage you had without getting commitments from Trump or Mike Johnson.”

Stewart lamented that the offer of a vote without guarantees from Republicans that it will pass and be taken up by the House is an empty offer – before playing a clip of Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) making the same comment, word for word.

“This guy gets it. Tim Kaine. Tim Kaine. You don’t see him as one of the eight voting yes,” Stewart said – cutting to a news clip announcing that Kaine had voted yes.

“I can’t f–ing believe it!” Stewart shouted again.
