Here is the thing about John Harbaugh: He is not in the building and on the practice field to coach the players and call it a day. He is on the scene to coach everyone, and that includes his staff.
Not every head coach — even one who spent the past 18 years with one franchise, winning a whole lot more than he lost — would have had the self-assuredness to bring in who he brought in. The guys he hired and entrusted with his offense are big-timers, in terms of skins on the wall in the NFL, and there is certainly a possibility that this mix of brainpower could lead to a too-many-cooks-in-the-kitchen scenario.
Matt Nagy, the offensive coordinator, was the head coach of the Bears, and has two Super Bowl rings from his time with Andy Reid and the Chiefs. Brian Callahan, the quarterbacks coach, was the head coach of the Titans and a former offensive coordinator with the Bengals.
Greg Roman, the senior offensive assistant, was an offensive coordinator for the 49ers, Bills, Ravens and Chargers. Mike Bloomgren, the offensive line coach, was a head coach at Rice.
