Joey Aguilar stats today: Tennessee QB has solid first-half performance vs. Georgia

One of the biggest games of Week 3 is live from Knoxville, Tenn., as the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs take on the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers. , Tennessee has a 21-17 lead at home at halftime.  

One player that has risen to the occasion in the first half is Vols starting quarterback Joey Aguilar. The former App State and JUCO signal-caller had an excellent first half, with over 200 yards passing, a pair of touchdowns and just one interception. 

Here's a look at Aguilar's stats so far against Georgia.

Joey Aguilar stats vs. Georgia

Aguilar did have an interception late in the second quarter, but other than that he had a great game early:

• Attempts: 22
• Passing Yards: 229
• Passing TDs: 2 
• Rush Yards: 4
• Rushing TDs: 1

In the first quarter, Aguilar went a perfect 16-for-16 passing, the first time an SEC quarterback has done that over the past two decades.

Aguilar's interception came on a bad throw, and an even better read by the Georgia defensive back:

Joey Aguilar highlights

Tennessee's first touchdown of the game came on a four-yard rush from Aguilar:

Following a quick response from Georgia quarterback Gunnar Stockton, who rushed it in for his own score, Aguilar went right back to work. On second down, Aguilar hit his receiver Chris Brazzell for a 72-yard catch:

Stockton ended the half with an interception as Georgia went to the locker room trailing Tennessee 21-17. The Dawgs will get the ball coming out of halftime, so it'll be an important opening possession for Tennessee's defense. 

Although Aguilar's pick wasn't the best decision from the quarterback, he's still had a great performance so far.
