JJ Wetherholt has already set an all-time Cardinals record

JJ Wetherholt will hope to accomplish much more than this in his St. Louis Cardinals career.

But he already can call one franchise all-time record his own.

This one is quirky: consecutive games getting hit by a pitch.

Jon Jay held the record before Wetherholt arrived, with four games in a row with an HBP.

Now it's Wetherholt's mark all his own -- he's been hit by a pitch in five consecutive games.

He's approaching the all-time record, too, of six games in a row by Carlos Quentin.

It's kind of a painful record.

At the same time, it shows that Wetherholt isn't afraid to do what it takes to get on base for his team.

It also shows that opposing pitchers are already recognizing they have to be precise and potentially run it inside on Wetherholt. And when they miss while aiming for a pinpoint target on the inside corner, it can lead to HBPs.

Weterholt surely would prefer to start notching a bunch of hits and not worry about hit by pitches.

But a record is a record, and now Wetherholt holds one.
