Jimmy Kimmel brutally roasted Matt Gaetz, Donald Trump‘s pick for Attorney General, on Live amid recent news that the House Ethics Committee is determining whether or not it will release the report outlining their long-running investigation into the former congressman.
Gaetz stands accused of having sex with a minor who was 17 years old at the time, according to a woman who testified about witnessing it before the House committee. The witness’ lawyer alleged that Gaetz paid her and another woman for sex by Venmo, which was made “very clear” during their questioning.
Kimmel slammed Gaetz and House Speaker Mike Johnson for trying to bury the report as Trump is ramping up his efforts to “strong arm” senators into confirming Gaetz as AG, as the late night comedian put it.
“Matt Gaetz – also known as the caucasian Diddy – is in the hot seat right now,” Kimmel joked, referencing yet another public figure who’s been accused of sex trafficking and sexually abusing minors.
“The Vennmo-lester was not quiet about his activities,” Kimmel later joked when it was revealed that Gaetz had flown his “lady friends” to New York City, where they reportedly saw Pretty Woman on Broadway.
After airing a clip of the lawyer alleging the House committee questioned the witness about the Venmo payments, Kimmel said, “The fact that Matt Gaetz was stupid enough to pay for sex with Venmo, that alone should be disqualifying.”
Kimmel went on to demand that the House release the report, despite Johnson openly advocating against it.
He aired a clip on Live of Johnson saying he doesn’t want to “open a Pandora’s box” by releasing the report after Gaetz resigned, as it would imply “the House Ethics Committee with its vast resources and unlimited power effectively could investigate private citizens.”
“I don’t think we want to go down that road,” Johnson says in the clip.
But Kimmel wasn’t buying it.
“He became a private citizen five days ago when he resigned specifically to avoid you releasing the results of the investigation,” he pointed out.
And it looks like the late night host has had quite enough of House Speaker Johnson this week: “Someone needs to put Mike Johnson back in the tree he lives in and release that report,” he declared to resounding applause from the Live audience.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
