The New York Jets might not be entering the 2026 season as Super Bowl or playoff contenders, but Aaron Glenn is coaching for his job, and needs the team to play better.
To keep his job, the Jets' defense needs to be a lot better than it was last year. While there was plenty of focus on the zero-interception statistic, this Jets defense also needed better production from the defensive line.
While they've added a few players this offseason, ESPN's Aaron Schatz is urging the Jets to sign a former Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills defensive lineman who has 27.5 sacks in his career, Larry Ogunjobi, to bolster the DL depth at a reasonable price tag.
Jets urged to sign Larry Ogunjobi to help DL depth
"Sign defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi," Schatz writes. "Ogunjobi would make a good addition to help David Onyemata and Harrison Phillips. The 32-year-old Ogunjobi will come much cheaper than the $8.3 million the Bills paid for half a season of him last year, and he has experience as a 3-4 end."
While the Jets might not be willing to spend a fortune on a veteran player, Ogunjobi is a good blend of experienced veteran and relatively cheap player to target in free agency.
If he's signing for well below that $8.3 million mark, a one-year deal for the Jets as some extra DL depth would make a lot of sense.

While he didn't record any sacks and only 19 tackles last season for the Bills in 10 games, he has had some very productive seasons in his career. He had seven sacks during a one-year stint with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021 and two 5.5 sack seasons with the Browns.
Ogunjobi would only be depth for this Jets defensive line, but for Glenn's defense that desperately needs to bounce back, and could use a little extra depth, this signing would make a lot of sense.
Whether it's simply as part of the DL rotation or injury insurance, adding someone like Ogunjobi shouldn't cost the Jets too much financially, and the former Bills, Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Bengals lineman should be a big help.
