The New York Jets are heading into the 2026 NFL season with some major changes to the roster. While there are a few notable absences, like Jermaine Johnson, Sauce Gardner, and Quinnen Williams, the Jets have added a ton of talent.
But one of the more interesting departures the Jets have to deal with is Nick Folk, the 41-year-old kicker who is set to join the Atlanta Falcons. Aaron Glenn and the Jets need a new kicker.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, they have a new starter in mind in the form of ex-Cleveland Browns fourth-round pick Cade York, who has a 73.3% field goal rate in his NFL career.
Jets to sign Cade York as Nick Folk's replacement
"Sources: The Jets are signing K Cade York to a 1-year deal," Schultz reports. "Veteran Nick Folk signed with the Falcons this week, so the Jets add the former 4th-round pick with a chance to win the job."
Folk's departure is a sneaky important one for the Jets. The veteran led the NFL with a 96.6 field goal rate this past season for the Jets and was one of the bright spots for the team in 2025.
While the Jets are adding York to the kicker room, there's no guarantee he wins the starting job. Based on his field goal rate, which is a mediocre 73.3%, York is likely to have some competition next year for the starting job.
More: Jets traded for Geno Smith instead of signing him in free agency to avoid worst-case-scenario
He closed out the 2025 season with the Cincinnati Bengals, appearing in five games and converted 81.8% of his field goal tries, going 9-of-11 with one miss from 30-39 and another from 40-49 yards.
His rookie season with the Browns in 2022 didn't go well. York had a 75% field goal rate, as he went 24-of-32. He also missed two extra points in his rookie season.
While York isn't the most ideal kicking replacement for Folk, he is an experienced kicker to bring into camp as some competition for the Jets in the wake of Folk leaving for the Falcons.
