The New York Jets lost to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, putting the Jets at 0-7 in Aaron Glenn's first year coaching the team. But, aside from the 13-6 loss, the Jets also saw one of their best players go down with an injury that could make for a challenging Week 8.
During the game, Jets superstar cornerback Sauce Garner was being evaluated for a concussion, and while there wasn't a clear indication during the game, afterwards, Glenn revealed the brutal update on the All-Pro cornerback.
As Underdog NFL shared on Twitter/X, Glenn announced that Gardner did indeed suffer a concussion, and with the recovery requirements, Gardner's status for Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals is very much in doubt.
Jets' Sauce Gardner suffers concussion during Week 7 loss to Panthers
The injury to Gardner came late in the game and left the Jets without both Gardner and Michael Carter II. While Gardner got his concussion during Week 7, Carter suffered his the week before and was ruled out ahead of the Sunday afternoon matchup.
Glenn: Jets CB Sauce Gardner suffered a concussion.
— Underdog NFL (@UnderdogNFL) October 19, 2025Gardner had two tackles in Week 7 before he left the game with what was eventually diagnosed as a concussion. And now, Gardner will have to go through the NFL's Return-To-Participation Protocol, which puts his status for Week 9 in question.
The Jets' two-time All-Pro cornerback has had some struggles at times this season. When targeted, he's allowed a passer rating of 101.6, the highest of his four-year NFL career.
On 27 targets, Gardner has allowed 13 receptions for 225 yards and two touchdowns. He has had five passes defended, and he's racked up 18 tackles this season through seven weeks.

But this injury now puts his status for Week 8 up in the air, and his status will be a huge one to watch as the week progresses. The Bengals' pass catchers, in Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, are incredibly challenging to defend, and the Jets have to do so without Gardner.
The $120 million cornerback couldn't finish Week 7against the Panthers, and now he's at risk of missing Week 8 against the Bengals. With the Jets' bye week in Week 9, there's little reason to rush him back.
Facing the Bengals without him will be a huge challenge, but the Jets can't solely look at 2025, as at 0-7, their season is already on the verge of being over.
Gardner's status for Week 8 is up in the air, but for now, the 24-year-old will need to go through the recovery process as he deals with a concussion from the Week 7 loss to the Panthers.
