The New York Jets have started the 2025 season 0-2, and things just got worse.
On Wednesday morning, head coach Aaron Glenn announced that starting quarterback Justin Fields will miss New York’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fields was ruled out with a concussion after exiting the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills.
In Fields’ absence, NFL veteran Tyrod Taylor will make his first start since 2023. Behind Taylor, here’s the state of the Jets’ quarterback room with Fields unavailable.

Tyrod Taylor
With Fields out, Tyrod Taylor will be starting for his seventh NFL team. He is currently the only healthy quarterback on the active roster, but rookie Brady Cook is expected to be elevated before Sunday.
Taylor has had stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans and New York Giants before joining the Jets in 2024. He backed up Aaron Rodgers and appeared in two games during the 2024 season. In Fields’ absence on Sunday, Taylor was 7-for-11 for 56 yards and a touchdown.
In his career, Taylor has passed for 12,310 yards, 69 touchdowns and 29 interceptions, while adding 19 rushing touchdowns. His best season came with Buffalo in 2015, when he threw for more than 3,000 yards and led the Bills to an 8-8 record.
