Jets predicted to trade for Packers 1,700-yard weapon after major draft blunder

The New York Jets need more help at wide receiver, and the Green Bay Packers might be a team that has a solution for them.

The Jets cut ties with Davante Adams this offseason, which leaves a gaping hole in the team's receivers room. Aside from Garrett Wilson, New York has lackluster and unproven receiver options in Allen Lazard, Josh Reynolds, Malachi Corley, Arian Smith and Xavier Gipson.

Because of their need, the Jets were expected to draft a wide receiver early, but they instead waiting until the fourth round to draft Smith, which simply isn't good enough.

Meanwhile, the Packers have an even more crowded wide receivers room after the selection of Matthew Golden in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft. Golden is added to a group that includes several promising young weapons like Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and Christian Watson.

That situation has led some to believe the Packers could eventually unload one of them, and Romeo Doubs is probably the most likely candidate as he enters the final year of his contract, and after he was disgruntled because of his role last season.

After what happened last season with Doubs, and with the Jets in need of more help at wide receiver for quarterback Justin Fields, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay predicts the Packers will trade Doubs to New York.

"The New York Jets fit the bill, especially after forgoing an opportunity to land a receiver early in the draft," Kay wrote. "While the team bolstered its offense with first-round tackle Armand Membou and second-round tight end Mason Taylor, its lone receiver addition was Arian Smith on Day 3."

Over three years in the NFL, Doubs has eclipsed the 600-yard mark twice and has tallied 1,700 receiving yards in total while also scoring 15 touchdowns. Making Doubs' 601 yards in 2024 more impressive is the fact that he missed four games.

Doubs checks just about all the boxes a team needs in a wide receiver. He has size (6-foot-2), deep-threat ability, and can line up in multiple spots.

At just 25 years old, Doubs could prove to be a long-term solution for the Jets, but it's obviously important to point out he'll be a free agent in 2026. Even still, with the Jets' need at wide receiver, it would be worth the Day 3 pick to see if the Packers wideout can earn an extension and stick around for the long haul.
