All indications point to the New York Jets either selecting David Bailey or Arvell Reese. Both are very good players who do different things on the defensive side of the football in terms of skill set, but there's also a lot of hope that one of them could eventually be a star in New York. Personally, I'd go with Reese, but I'm not the decision-maker for the Jets.
There are also other things New York needs, and one of them is finding a talented wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson.
According to a recent report, it sounds like New York will prioritize this, as it will have to decide between Bailey and Reese and who it wants to pair Garrett Wilson with.
“Armed with four of the top 44 picks, second-year GM Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn are set up this year and next (when they have three first-round picks) to get younger and more talented. But there’s also the matter of giving the players already on hand hope and a light at the end of the tunnel, and Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey’s ability to do that is a big part of what should make him the second pick in the draft.
"Bailey’s analytical data shows a high-end pass rusher with rare get-off—and that should all translate quickly, though he does have work to do to get better against the run. And with the 16th pick, many in the league expect Mougey to look at finally giving Garrett Wilson a running mate at receiver, perhaps a playmaker like Indiana’s Omar Cooper Jr. or Texas A&M’s KC Concepcion (or perhaps Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq),” Albert Breer wrote.
There are a lot of really good wide receivers in this class, so I'd rather see the Jets take a receiver, possibly in the second round if another good defensive player is available at 16. However, I would also understand why Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn would go after a wide receiver at No. 16 if one they love is right there.
