Jets' Garrett Wilson gets $96 million contract update

The New York Jets will probably line up a contract extension with wide receiver Garrett Wilson at some point in the near future.

If that deal gets done, it'll approach the $100 million level.

Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert, now an analyst for Bleacher Report, offered his prediction.

"I think that Garrett Wilson could very easily get a four-year, $96 million contract," Benkert said. "I could see him getting over $100 million. But I think this is a place where the Jets could get comfortable with him."

Benkert compares him with Brandon Aiyuk and Nico Collins in his further analysis.

Aiyuk has a four-year, $120 million contract, while Collins' extension in Houston was three years and $72.75 million.

Wilson will likely want more in the Aiyuk end of that spectrum.

Honestly, it'd be surprising not to see it get over $100 million, and maybe well over.

The Jets can't really afford to let the former Ohio State star get away.

When you draft someone like Wilson, and then he turns into the star you're expecting, there's a bit of responsibility to the franchise to maintain that guy on your roster.

The biggest complicating factor for the Jets might be Sauce Gardner. The star cornerback is also due for an extension on the same timeline as Wilson, and his might approach $100 million, too.

Time for Woody Johnson to open up his checkbook.
