The Winnipeg Jets' roster got crowded.
To make space, they had to get rid of a guy who has been suiting up for them for six seasons.
On Thursday, the Jets announced they are waiving David Gustafsson. He could be claimed by any other NHL team.
Gustafsson came to the Jets as a second-round pick (No. 60 overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft out of Sweden.
He made his NHL debut with 22 games in the 2019-20 season.
Gustafsson would then play four games in 2020-21, two in 2021-22, and then 46, 39 and 36 games across the past three seasons, respectively.
He's always been a gritty, bottom-six forward, but clearly one that Jets valued, given his continued presence on the ice for them.
But now, Gustafsson has been deemed surplus to proceedings as newer faces have shown they belong.

Last season, Gustafsson had two goals and four assists in 36 games. He was a plus-10.
Also in 2024-25, Gustafsson had 18 blocks and 19 hits. He averaged 8:59 of playing time per game.
The 6-foot-2, 25-year old center likely will get interest elsewhere, although that may be after he first clears waivers. He's got the skillset to slot into a fourth line and feel comfortable with what he provides.
The Jets open the season on Thursday night at home. They're hosting the Dallas Stars. Gustafsson won't be taking part.
