It's been a nightmare to start the 2025 season for first-year head coach Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets.
As the only winless team left standing, the 0-7 Jets haven't been able to get anything going with newly acquired quarterback Justin Fields. Through six starts, he's passed for 845 passing yards and four touchdowns while rushing for four more.
The Jets' offensive production hasn't been enough to win games this season. Quarterback Justin Fields was benched late in their 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers in favor of backup Tyrod Taylor. Now, New York's starting job appears up for grabs as the team continues to search for its first win of 2025.
Jets moving toward naming Tyrod Taylor as starter for Week 8 against Cincinnati Bengals
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is still searching for his first win as an NFL head coach and appears willing to do whatever it takes to get it.
Owner Woody Johnson has made it clear that he's putting all of his trust into Glenn, it's led to determining the next steps at the quarterback position.
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Aaron Glenn is "moving toward naming Tyrod Taylor his starter."
Taylor, 36, already has one start this season, filling in for Justin Fields in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while Fields was sidelined with a concussion. After appearing in three games in 2025, the veteran has thrown for 379 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, while adding 80 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, the Jets are going to need to figure out what the next steps are with Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract to join the team this past offseason.
