Jennifer Siebel Newsom dodges question on DOJ probe at Obama event

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom flew to Chicago to attend the Thursday opening of former President Barack Obama’s Presidential Library — and questions around a bombshell federal probe into the couple seemed to follow them there.

When questioned about the investigation at the event, California’s first lady had an awkward exchange a reporter before quickly directing attention to the library.

“I’m just so grateful for this inspiration and leadership,” she said, presumably referring to Obama.

“We need more of this!” she exclaimed, before looking away from the reporter.

That’s when her husband stepped in to answer.

“This is stuff that happens in other countries. That’s all I’ll say. Happens in other countries,” he said, repeating his Monday accusations that President Trump used the investigation to target his political enemies.

“He wants to go after me? Go after me,” Newsom said before ending the interview.

Siebel Newsom did comment on the probe earlier in the week, sticking to her husband’s portrayal of the probe.

“There are clearly no boundaries to what Donald Trump will do to get his way or to challenge those who get in his way,” she said in a statement.

Sources close to Newsom have told other media outlets that the investigation focuses on nonprofit projects connected to Siebel Newsom, one of which The California Post revealed in March has received millions from special interests doing business with Newsom and the state.

The governor had claimed that federal agents have knocked on the doors of family, friends and former employees.
