Jenna Bush Hager Explains Her Absence From Part of ‘Today’ Show
Jenna Bush Hager is sharing an inside look at a special moment in time.
The Today anchor gave a sweet update on her family’s summer celebrations, posting a rare multigenerational photo of the six ladies in the Bush brood during a vacation at the family’s compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Alongside an Aug. 23 Instagram carousel, Jenna referenced the lyrics from the 2020 Taylor Swift song “august,” writing, “I can see us lost in the memory, August slipped away into a moment in time.”
The first photo featured the 44-year-old posing with the lovely ladies in her life, including her mom Laura Bush, twin sister Barbara Bush, her niece Cora, along with her and husband Henry Hager’s daughters Mila, 13, and Poppy, 10.
In the shot, Jenna—who was wearing a green and white striped shirt and white jeans—was all smiles as she posed with her arm around her eldest Mila, who donned a black dress and matched her mom with white sandals. Poppy, meanwhile, wore a pink printed dress, opting to go barefoot in the summer heat. Like the preteen, Jenna’s twin sister and niece also wore colorful, patterned sundresses.
And as for the family matriarch? Laura—who has been married to former President George W. Bush since 1977—kept it classy in a blue button-down shirt and off-white pants.
Along with the heartwarming group photo, Jenna—also mom to son Hal, 6, with Henry—shared snaps from other memorable moments from the trip, including photos of her kids enjoying the last bits of summer and a selfie with her husband.
While it may be difficult at times to watch her kids grow up so fast, Jenna has come to realize that her children coming into their own and having personal experiences is ultimately a “great thing.”

“They’re starting to become really independent,” she shared on Today in May 2024, “and they don’t need me as much. And I’m like, 'OK, I did something right.'"
And through it all, Jenna has her mom Laura as a guide during her motherhood journey.
"My dad always says he could never have been as successful without knowing [my mom] had us,” she added. “And so I hope I turn into her for my little kids."

"When I wake up in the morning," Melvin said to his son during a May 2024 episode of Today, "part of the reason I work so hard is for you and your sister."
