Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones offered a powerful update on their fellow Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie amid the ongoing search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.

Savannah, who is an anchor on the first hour of Today, has not been on the show since Jan. 30 as the search for her 84-year-old mother continues. But Savannah paid a visit to the Today studios Thursday (March 5) for the very first time, leaving quite the impact on her colleagues and co-hosts.

Bush Hager could barely hold back her tears as she and Jones updated viewers on Savannah’s return to The Today Show.

“Let’s just get right into it, full disclosure, we’ve had a powerful morning this morning,” Jones said at the top of the show as she and Bush Hager took their seats.

“Savannah has come back to her home here at 30 Rock in Studio 1A,” Bush Hager said as she became visibly emotional. “We got to see her this morning and in her perfect way, she talked to all of us, hugged every single person in this room, the crew.”

Bush Hager, who is close friends with Savannah, confirmed she will be returning to the show at some point.

“She said that she has the intention to return to the show even though it feels like the hardest thing to do,” Bush Hager said. “It’s also her home and where she feels so loved. And she is beyond loved here. So we’re happy she’s home. I don’t know when she’s actually returning to the show. But she was here and that felt so good to get to hug her.”

Jones, who went through her own personal tragedy as an anchor on the show when her husband passed away in 2025 from cancer, praised Savannah for taking the brave step of visiting the studio amidst the ongoing investigation.

“I’m not smiling, but I feel proud of Savannah and I’m rooting for Savannah, and I know the strength it would take to even just come in here and to be amongst all of us,” Jones said, later adding, “I think her coming here and just being able to be with us and for us to be able to hug her, I think it’s a step, right? I don’t know what’s ahead of us. All I know is, it’s a step.”

Bush Hager shared that Savannah expressed her appreciation for the prayers and support she’s received from her colleagues and friends.

“She said the yellow flowers and the pins, all of your prayers, she feels them, she depends on them,” Bush Hager noted. “She said — and she’s said this to me before during all of this — but her pastor said — and I think she wouldn’t mind me sharing this — she said, ‘You know, God is our last resort,’ and she said, ‘No, God has always been my first resort.’”

A spokesperson for The Today Show said Savannah “stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her TODAY colleagues” and “plans to return to the show on air,” per People. However, she is “focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”

Savannah anchor recently announced her family is offering a $1 million reward for more information regarding the whereabouts of her missing mother.

“We still believe in a miracle. We still believe she can come home. We also know that she may be lost she may already be gone, she may already have gone home to the lord that she loves, and is dancing in heaven with her mom, and her dad, and her beloved brother Pierce, and with our daddy,” she said in an emotional video shared on social media.

“And if this is what it is to be, then we will accept it. But we need to know where she is. We need her to come home.”

Today with Jenna & Sheinelle airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
