Jenna Bush Hager Calls Out ‘Today’ For “Cutting” Her Off With Music: “I Feel Like This Is The Emmys”

Jenna Bush Hager had a hilarious reaction to getting played off her own show during a cocktail-making segment with Anthony Ramos on Today.

The daytime host threw some shade at Today and the Emmys when music began playing during the segment, signaling that the show was going to commercial whether they were ready or not.

“They’re cutting me off with music. I feel like this is the Emmys,” she joked.

Bush Hager could be referring to the Emmy Awards’ strict 45-second rule for acceptance speeches. This year, the show also raised the stakes by threatening to deduct $1,000 from Nate Bargatze’s $100,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of America for every second their speech exceeded over the time limit. The ceremony ended in the red with -$60,000 left, but Bargatze announced he would donate $250,000 to the charity in addition to $100,000 being donated by CBS.

The Today host has shaded the Emmys plenty of times over the years as she has yet to win a Daytime Emmy for her time on Today.

She and Hoda Kotb were nominated one last time together for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host this year for Today With Hoda & Jenna. Their competition in the category includes Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, as well as hosting duo Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. This marks their fifth Daytime Emmy Award nomination together.

Kotb was still holding out hope when she surprised Bush Hager with a call on the show in July.

“Girl, let me tell you something. This is our last hurrah, this is happening,” Kotb said, before playfully adding, “Kelly Clarkson who?”

It remains to be seen who will be taking that Emmy home. The Daytime Emmys will be taking place on Oct. 17.

Bush Hager has previously compared herself and Kotb to All My Children legend Susan Lucci, who won a Daytime Emmy once in 1999 after being nominated a whopping 21 times.

“Look at Susan Lucci,” Bush Hager once told Kotb. “If Susan Lucci can do it, so can we.”

She added, “We gotta hang in there.”
