Jed York arrest details: What to know about 'prostitution' charges against 49ers owner

49ers owner Jed York was handed a two-day jail sentence and $1,150 fine after being arrested in Ohio over the weekend.

The 46-year-old, a Youngstown, Ohio native, was arrested on Sunday on the suspicion of engaging in prostitution. He pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors related to the alleged incident on Monday morning.

York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio on Sunday. According to a police report examined by KRON-4, East Palestine Police apprehended York on suspicion of the 49ers owner engaging in prostitution. The State of Ohio amended one count of engaging in prostitution to a disorderly conduct charge. York was also charged with one count of possessing criminal tools. He pleaded no contest to both charges on Monday.

The California Post reported that York responded to an advertisement from a known prostitution website in Columbiana County. York reportedly "arranged to have sexual activity with the female in exchange for $140."

Per the Post's report, York planned on meeting with a woman in an East Palestine trailer park. He was confronted by an agent from the Mahonig Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of a sting operation.

Additionally, The Athletic reports that York was caught responding to an ad for prostitution while using the pseudonym "Joe," where police were on the other end. York responded to the ad multiple times on Saturday then again on Sunday, when he negotiated "full service sexual activity" for $160.

Court records examined by WKBN showed that York was sentenced to a two-day stint in the Columbiana County jail — he received credit for a day served — and a $1,150 fine.

The 49ers released a statement acknowledging York's arrest on Monday afternoon.

What is 'possession of criminal tools'?

Section 2923.24 of the State of Ohio's Revised Code outlaws the possession of criminal tools. Ohio law defines the possession of criminal tools as:

• Possession or control of any dangerous ordnance, or the materials or parts for making dangerous ordnance, in the absence of circumstances indicating the dangerous ordnance, materials, or parts are intended for legitimate use;
• Possession or control of any substance, device, instrument, or article designed or specially adapted for criminal use;
• Possession or control of any substance, device, instrument, or article commonly used for criminal purposes, under circumstances indicating the item is intended for criminal use.

York was issued a two-day jail sentence, with one day credit being granted to him on account of time served. He pleaded no contest to his charges on Monday morning.

Court records indicate that York's two-day sentence will be served concurrently. He also received a $1,150 fine.

Where was Jed York arrested?

Police arrested York at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Park in East Palestine, Ohio, which is located about 30 minutes away from York's home town of Youngstown. York was arrested in the main road of the park after he couldn't find the address of his destination in the area.

Wheat Hill Mobile Park posted an update on its Facebook page explaining that it had no knowledge of the sting operation and that the police didn't use an address in the park to trap York.

"I just got off the phone with the Chief of Police for East Palestine, Chief Weingart. According to the Chief, Jed York was arrested in the park because that's where he happened to pull over," the statement said. "According to him, they were not using addresses in the park as part of their sting operation. This news of this arrest in our quiet community is just as shocking to us as to the rest of you."

Where is Jed York from?

York hails from Youngstown, Ohio, a city largely located in Mahoning County (with a sliver belonging to Trumbull County). He attended Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, serving as senior class president while starring on the Cardinal's baseball team.

Youngstown is about a 30 minute drive from East Palestine.

Is Jed York married?

York filed for divorce from his wife of more than 15 years, Danielle, in May, according to court documents obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle. The divorce hasn't been finalized yet, with the Chronicle reporting that the couple is still awaiting a court date. The pairing agreed to physical joint custody of their two children, per court records obtained by the Chronicle.

Will Jed York be punished by NFL?

York presumably will face some sort of discipline for his arrest from the league office. Like players, owners are subject of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.

Players rarely avoid punishment if they are found to have committed a personal conduct violation. There's a perception around the league that those rules don't stick as cleanly when it comes to ownership. Patriots owner Robert Kraft was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution in 2019. Florida prosecutors dropped the charges against New England's owner in 2020 after a state appeals court decision barred them from using surveillance footage reportedly showing Kraft receiving sexual services for money in a Jupiter, Fla. massage parlor.

The league summarily opted against punishing Kraft.

York's no contest plea could be enough to facilitate a ban, fine or both from the league office.
