Jed York arrest details: What to know about 'prostitution' charges against 49ers owner

49ers owner Jed York was handed a two-day jail sentence and $1,150 fine after being arrested in Ohio over the weekend.

The 46-year-old, a Youngstown, Ohio native, was arrested on Sunday on the suspicion of engaging in prostitution. He pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors related to the alleged incident on Monday morning.

York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio on Sunday. According to a police report examined by KRON-4, East Palestine Police apprehended York on suspicion of the 49ers owner engaging in prostitution. The State of Ohio amended one count of engaging in prostitution to a disorderly conduct charge. York was also charged with one count of possessing criminal tools. He pleaded no contest to both charges on Monday.

Court records examined by WKBN showed that York was sentenced to a two-day stint in the Columbiana County jail — he received credit for a day served — and a $1,150 fine.

What is 'possession of criminal tools'?

Section 2923.24 of the State of Ohio's Revised Code outlaws the possession of criminal tools. Ohio law defines the possession of criminal tools as:

• Possession or control of any dangerous ordnance, or the materials or parts for making dangerous ordnance, in the absence of circumstances indicating the dangerous ordnance, materials, or parts are intended for legitimate use;
• Possession or control of any substance, device, instrument, or article designed or specially adapted for criminal use;
• Possession or control of any substance, device, instrument, or article commonly used for criminal purposes, under circumstances indicating the item is intended for criminal use.

York was issued a two-day jail sentence, with one day credit being granted to him on account of time served. He pleaded no contest to his charges on Monday morning.

Court records indicate that York's two-day sentence will be served concurrently. He also received a $1,150 fine.

Will Jed York be punished by NFL?

York presumably will face some sort of discipline for his arrest from the league office. Like players, owners are subject of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.

Players rarely avoid punishment if they are found to have committed a personal conduct violation. There's a perception around the league that those rules don't stick as cleanly when it comes to ownership. Patriots owner Robert Kraft was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution in 2019. Florida prosecutors dropped the charges against New England's owner in 2020 after a state appeals court decision barred them from using surveillance footage reportedly showing Kraft receiving sexual services for money in a Jupiter, Fla. massage parlor.

The league summarily opted against punishing Kraft.

York's no contest plea could be enough to facilitate a ban, fine or both from the league office.
