The New York Yankees haven't been on top of the baseball world in quite some time, and had an opportunity to do just that a year ago.
Playing in the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, many thought that the winner of that series was going to represent the American League in the World Series. The Yankees lost to the Blue Jays in four games, dropping the series 3-1.
The Blue Jays went on to win the American League pennant before dropping to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a heartbreaker in Game 7 of the World Series in Toronto.
To put things lightly, the Yankees definitely understand that the Blue Jays are a team they have to beat. Speaking about that while they're currently playing each other in New York, with the Yankees splitting the four-game set, Jazz Chisholm Jr. said that they have to have a different mindset when it comes to playing the Blue Jays.
“Especially losing to them in the playoffs, we gotta have a different mindset when it comes to them,” Chisholm said, per The Athletic. “Every time we see them, we have that feeling. At least I do, for sure. I know a couple of other guys in the clubhouse have that feeling of, like, we owe you something. We’re gonna show you what we’ve got.”
The Blue Jays are one of those scrappy teams that, while they might not have as much talent as the Yankees, know how to win games at a very high level and have done so in recent years.
They've dealt with some injury problems throughout this season, which is the only reason they've struggled, but it's good to hear that the Yankees are taking them very seriously and want to get some revenge.
