Inter Miami bagged a 2-1 win against FC Porto in their second match of the Club World Cup on June 18 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
After the score was tied 1-1, Lionel Messi netted a stunning freekick in the 54th minute to lead Inter Miami to victory against Porto. The Herons now need a win or a draw in the next and last match in the competition's group stage to seal their spot in the Round of 16.
Even a loss in their upcoming match will still leave a chance for Inter Miami to advance to the next stage of the Club World Cup.
Inter Miami are set to face Brazilian side Palmeiras in their third match of the competition, and speaking ahead of the clash, head coach Javier Mascherano candidly anticipated the upcoming game to be 'very difficult.'
The Argentine manager also highlighted the chance Messi & Co. have to add to the Major League Soccer club's history.
What did Inter Miami boss Javier Mascherano say?
While giving credit to their immediate opponents, Mascherano mentioned the upcoming clash to be 'possibly one of the most important games' in Inter Miami's history.

"Clearly, it will be a very difficult game. We're going to face a great team, a team that in recent years has won Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian league. They always play for important things in South America with a coach who's been at the club for a long time. And it's a club with [Brazilian] national team-level players," he said.
"We're on the verge of possibly one of the most important games in our club's history. May that fill us with hope to play it and not be a burden. But rather a hope and a challenge for this group of players who are doing so well up to this point," added Mascherano.
Messi & Co. are set to lock horns with Palmeiras on June 23 at Hard Rock Stadium. This match will make to be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
