While wearing a keffiyeh around his neck, award-winning actor Javier Bardem took his time on the Emmys red carpet to advocate for the people of Gaza.
“Here I am today denouncing the genocide in Gaza,” Bardem said in one interview. He also mentioned that the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) has officially declared that the current humanitarian crisis occurring in the Gaza Strip is undoubtedly a genocide, before expanding on their mission. “We ask for a commercial and diplomatic blockade and also sanctions on Israel to stop the genocide. Free Palestine!”
In another red carpet interview, Bardem expertly segued from a question about his experience working on Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story to mentioning IAGS and their work. When asked about what it means to use his platform to champion others, he shouted out the Film Workers for Palestine union, adding, “We target film companies and institutions that are complicit and are whitewashing or justifying Israel’s genocide and its apartheid regime. That’s what we’re targeting, not to those who stand in solidarity with oppressed people.”
This is not the first time that Bardem has publicly used his voice and celebrity to speak out about the situation in Gaza. The Spanish actor spent his appearance on a June 16th, 2025 episode of The View expressing his views on the subject and openly standing with the people of Gaza, even as the show nearly played him off with a quick cut to comemrcial.
Bardem is nominated tonight for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his work as José Menendez in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
