Jasprit Bumrah performs celebrappeal for his third wicket after removing Tony de Zorzi for 24 in IND vs SA 2025 1st Test [Watch]

Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah pulled off a celebrappeal after dismissing South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi on Day 1 (Friday, November 14) of the ongoing first Test. The match is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The wicket came on the third ball of the 33rd over of the Proteas’ first innings. Bumrah delivered a good-length ball from round the wicket that jagged in off the seam and stayed a touch low. De Zorzi, beaten on the inside edge and caught on the crease, was struck plumb in front, prompting Bumrah’s instant celebrappeal as the umpire raised his finger. The batter reviewed the decision, but ball-tracking returned three reds, upholding the on-field call.

Tony de Zorzi fell for 24 off 55 deliveries, striking one four and a six. His wicket left the Proteas struggling at 120/5 after 32.3 overs.

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat first. The Proteas got off to a solid start, with openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton adding 57 runs in the first 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah provided the first breakthrough for India, rattling Rickelton’s stumps with a ripper for 23 in the 11th over to break the 57-run opening stand.

Not long after, the Indian pacer struck again by dismissing Markram, who scored 31 off 48 balls. Captain Bavuma couldn’t make an impact either, falling for just three off 11 deliveries to Kuldeep Yadav. Wiaan Mulder, despite getting a start, departed for 24 as Kuldeep picked up his second wicket.

Bumrah then removed Tony de Zorzi for 24 to claim his third scalp. At the time of writing, the visitors were 130/5 after 36 overs, with Tristan Stubbs (6) and Kyle Verreynne (5) at the crease.
