Jason Kelce shares 'reality' behind Eagles' decision to trade A.J. Brown

There's been a lot of outside speculation regarding what went wrong in the Philadelphia Eagles' locker room that ultimately led the team to trading star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots earlier this week.

One person who can speak on the situation with actual insight is Eagles legend Jason Kelce, who spent two seasons sharing the locker room in Philly with Brown.

During a new episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce shared his take on the situation. Kelce said that he didn't think that Brown was the sole reason that Philadelphia's offense sputtered last season, and he expects the star reason to have a major impact in New England.

“Here’s the reality. AJ Brown was not the reason the Eagles’ offense was not successful last year,” Kelce said. “He’s a very good football player. I don’t want to hear all this, ‘Has he lost a step?’ We’re going to find out this year. I think he’s going to have a really good year.”

Rather than blaming Brown for Philadelphia's offense struggles, Kelce flipped the script and blamed Philly's issues on the offensive side of the ball for Brown's mounting frustrations.

“How does a relationship like this start to falter? It’s because you don’t have success on the field. You stop executing as a team, you stop executing as players," Kelce said.

"The Eagles offense had continued to decline as a passing game. The run game stalled out last year with injuries and other things happening. Execution fuels emotion. When you’re not performing, this is the reality of the league, this the reality of how it goes."

Kelce did acknowledge that Brown could have probably handled the situation better (duh), but he doesn't fault him for the frustration he felt.

“Do I wish AJ would have handled it better at times? Yes," Kelce said. "But I don’t fault him for being frustrated that he wasn’t getting what he wanted out of the game and out of playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.”
