Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell is returning with a new album before the winter officially is over. The Alabama native revealed on Instagram Tuesday (Jan. 14) that the upcoming project, titled Foxes in the Snow, will release March 7 on Southeastern Records. The 11-song album will follow 2023’s Weathervanes.

According to the press release, Isbell recorded the project over the course of five days in October 2024 at NYC’s famed Electric Lady Studios, and worked with producer/mixer/engineer Gena Johnson, who has previously worked on Isbell projects including Weathervanes and Reunions. He recorded each song on the same mahogany 1940 Martin 0-17 acoustic guitar.

He offered a first listen to the album via the first single, “Bury Me,” a solo write from Isbell.

Fans will likely get glimpses of the new music when Isbell launches his Intimate Evening solo tour in February. The trek begins Feb. 15 in Chicago and runs through the end of March, visiting cities including New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville.

Isbell was previously part of the group Drive-By Truckers before going solo in 2013 with his Dave Cobb-produced album Southeastern. He followed with 2015’s Something More Than Free and 2017’s The Nashville Sound. Along the way, he’s earned six Grammy wins. Most recently, his album Weathervanes earned a Grammy for best Americana album, while his song “Cast Iron Skillet” earned a Grammy for best American roots song.

The upcoming album also comes following a time of change in his personal life, as Isbell filed for divorce from his longtime partner and fellow musician Amanda Shires in February 2024.
