Following a breakout year in 2024, the last thing we expected to see this offseason from the Detroit Lions is a trade involving wide receiver Jameson Williams.
However, we apparently need to consider it at least a possibility. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, some people he has spoken to think the Lions could move Williams at some point this offseason.
"Receiver’s another spot to consider — with a fifth-year option decision coming on Jameson Williams, and some in NFL circles believing he could be traded," Breer wrote.
In the wake of Breer's post, Williams took to social media to post the message in the screenshot below, which has only fueled speculation that he could be dealt.

After two difficult years to begin his career, Williams posted career-highs in catches (58), yards (1,001) and touchdowns (eight) while serving as the No. 2 option in the offense behind Amon-Ra St. Brown last season. He also added a much-needed explosive element to the Lions' unit.

Considering how important Williams is to the offense moving forward, it's hard to imagine the Lions trading him. If they do, it could be for a few reasons.
One of those reasons could be a lack of trust for Williams, who has been suspended twice and had a run-in with police last year that he was ultimately cleared of without charges.
Another possible reason could be financial. Williams is projected to make $15.4 million on the fifth-year option and general manager Brad Holmes has made it very clear the team has some financial constraints with multiple key players to pay.
We'd ultimately expect Williams to remain in Detroit, if for no other reason than replacing him will be extremely difficult to do, at least in the short term.
