James Handy’s suspected murderer allegedly had schizophrenia and was off of his medication before the fatal stabbing.
The late actor’s girlfriend, Wendy Gledhill, spoke to TMZ on Friday about son James Gledhill, who has been accused of stabbing Handy outside of his home two days prior.
Wendy told the outlet James was diagnosed with the mental illness in July 2025 and prescribed meds.
However, Wendy said she found out James had stopped taking the medicine a week before the Tarzana, California, murder.
As for his and Handy’s dynamic, she claimed the duo did not “always see eye-to-eye” but were “cordial.”
She added, “[Handy’s family members] know I loved him so much. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry this happened.”

Wendy noted she is “still in shock” and she “can’t comprehend” the tragedy.
Handy was discovered dead in his front yard after a chilling 911 call alerted police to “unknown trouble.”
According to officials, the caller told dispatch, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
As cops surveilled the area, Michael turned himself over — and was arrested for murder.
He is being held at at Van Nuys Jail on $2 million bail.
Handy, who primarily kept his personal life out of the spotlight, has been acting since 1997.
In addition to his final role in “Top Gun: Maverick” as a bartender named Jimmy, he is best known for acting in “Jumanji” and a slew of TV projects over the years.
