Jalen Milroe's brilliant 6-word answer might have been the most honest of pre-draft process

The Seattle Seahawks did what many expected them to during the 2025 NFL draft and added a new quarterback in third-round pick, Jalen Milroe.

Milroe now enters a quarterbacks room where he'll bet third on the depth chart in his first season after the trade of Sam Howell and release of Jarren Hall.

Sam Darnold is, of course, going to be the starter, and Drew Lock will back him up. That situation will allow Milroe some much-needed time to continue to develop his game.

It was never a secret that Milroe needed to improve areas of his game, especially as a passer. And that's not something he shied away from during the pre-draft process, either, which may have helped his cause.

According to On SI's Hondo Carpenter, Milroe had an incredibly honest answer when teams asked him what he thought he needed to improve on.

“One of the teams asked Jalen Milroe a series of questions about what he was really good at,” Carpenter revealed. “And then they said they asked him what he could get better at, and his answer was, ‘How much time do you have?’

"And the guy goes, 'We’re sitting there interviewing Jalen Milroe and he’s telling us all the areas that he’s working on right now,” Carpenter added.

When Milroe was asked if he thought his answer might concern teams, the Alabama product gave another smart, straightforward answer.

“[A] team said to him, ‘Are you not concerned about pointing out those things to us that would concern us?’ He basically said to them, I wasn’t in the room, but basically said, ‘You should be concerned with any guy that comes in this room, who hasn’t played a down of NFL football and doesn’t tell you that he has weaknesses or that he isn’t working on them. Plus it’s an insult because that means he doesn’t think you know how to watch film,’” Carpenter said.

When you see answers like that, it's easy to see why teams were so impressed with Milroe and why he was able to go as high as he did, despite the obvious flaws in his game. His high-level character definitely shined through in pre-draft interviews, and chances are that was a big help to his draft stock.

Milroe landed in the perfect spot with the Seahawks. He'll have a year or more to develop without much pressure as Darnold takes the reins of the offense from Seattle's 2024 starter, Geno Smith, who was traded earlier this offseason.

The Seahawks are, however, at least considering giving Milroe a package of plays that will get his elite athleticism on the field sooner rather than later.
