Jakorian Bennett could be the odd man out in the Raiders' cornerback competition

After posting a promising second season in 2024, cornerback Jakorian Bennett is expected to make even more strides in 2025 with the Las Vegas Raiders.

However, it looks like the Maryland product could be the odd man out in the Raiders' cornerback room, according to Jesse Merrick of the Silver and Black Sports Network.

"It kind of feels like Jakorian Bennett is the odd man out in the cornerback room," Merrick wrote on X. "He doesn’t fit the size profile Pete clearly favors but it’s still early. We’ve seen him take reps with the 1s, 2s, and 3s already. Lots of shuffling around in the CB room."

Merrick adds that Decamerion Richardson is taking first-team reps at practice on Tuesday along with Eric Stokes. He also states that it appears Richardson and rookie third-round pick Darien Porter are leading the cornerback competition.

"Decamerion Richardson stacked two good days of practice together and is getting work opposite of Stokes with the 1s to start practice," Merrick wrote on X. "Again, gonna be a lot of guys cycling in opposite Stokes but feels like DCam [Decamerion Richardson] and Darien Porter are leading that battle."

It's a bit shocking that Bennett looks to be falling behind in the battle for the starting cornerback spots, as the 24-year-old was a solid starter on Patrick Graham's defense last year before undergoing season-ending shoulder injury after Week 11.

There's still a ton of time in camp for Bennett to earn a starting role on the defense. However, it appears he has an uphill battle in front of him.
