Jaguars' Travis Hunter can win Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards

Travis Hunter is unlike any player in NFL history.

How can you be sure? His head coach just said the Jacksonville Jaguars two-way rookie sensation can win both the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards.

The No. 2 overall pick is a star wide receiver and star cornerback, and head coach Liam Coen shared that thought with Rich Eisen on Monday.

“I do think it’s possible,” Coen told Rich Eisen. "You know, he is committed, man. Like, he is committed to driving, not just himself, but his teammates as well. And I think that his teammates ... these guys are challenging him. Every single day. Like, he doesn’t get a free pass because he was second overall pick, and he’s Travis Hunter. Like, they are in his grill trying to jam him up, trying to hem him up, trying to make it as hard as they can possibly make it for him in a great way, like in the most healthy way as possible, where they’re going at it and chirping at each other. But it’s truly ... iron sharpening iron. That’s what it feels like. And I wouldn’t expect anything less from those guys.”

The key takeaway here is that Coen himself thinks Hunter can do it.

And to do that, Hunter would have to play close to full-time both ways.

That's been the biggest question for the Heisman Trophy winner from Colorado: Would he really play every snap in the NFL the way he did in college?

Coen seems to believe in it. Hunter is seeing reps both ways in training camp. It's a real possibility.

The Jags will probably read and react to Hunter's energy level and performance as the season goes on.

But they don't want to put a limit on his potential. And why should they?

They traded the farm to move up to the Browns' selection and get Hunter. He's special, and they plan on letting him show just how special he really is.
