Days after the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to terms with No. 2 overall draft pick Travis Hunter on his rookie contract, GM James Gladstone and company have reportedly locked down another explosive playmaker for coach Liam Coen’s offense.
Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten, Jacksonville’s fourth-round pick who Gladstone called a priority add for the team on Day 3 of the draft, has agreed to sign his four-year, $5.2 million rookie-scale deal, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Exact terms of the deal are yet to be released, but Tuten’s contract ensures both he and Hunter will be full-goes when Jacksonville opens training camp next month. Hunter’s contract included a $30.57 million signing bonus that the Jaguars agreed to pay entirely up front, making it the richest such deal in NFL history for a non-quarterback drafted outside of the No. 1 overall pick.
Tuten will be entering an intriguing training camp battle with returning veterans Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby. Rookie seventh-round pick LeQuint Allen will also be in the mix, but Garafolo is among the many who believe Tuten will see snaps right out of the chute in Coen’s offense thanks to his speed and pass-catching abilities.
Per Garafolo, Tuten is now set to enter training camp with a “chance to make a run at significant playing time this season.”
Jaguars training camp for rookies will start on July 19, with the rest of the team reporting on July 22.
