Jaguars lose ascending young cornerback to training camp-ending leg injury

The Jacksonville Jaguars will finish training camp without one of the stars from their spring offseason program.

Per head coach Liam Coen, rising young cornerback Montaric Brown will miss the rest of training camp after suffering a lower-leg injury in practice.

Brown, 25, made the most of his extended playing time last season, logging 855 defensive snaps. He carried that momentum over into the spring, with Michael DiRocco of ESPN naming him the team’s biggest surprise in OTAs.

“Brown has worked with the starters, and he consistently made plays throughout the offseason, including a pair of end-zone pass breakups in red zone drills in minicamp,” DiRocco wrote. “He has the advantage heading into camp.”

Brown’s injury should help solidify Jacksonville’s cornerback room, with Tyson Campbell and Jarrian Jones on the outside, and veteran Jourdan Lewis in the slot. Star rookie Travis Hunter and 2024 fifth-rounder De’Antre Prince should also be in the mix until Brown can get back healthy.

The Jaguars announced a number of training camp injuries on Monday, with Brown’s situation the headliner. The team is also shutting down rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten (hamstring), but he’s not expected to miss an extended period of time.
