It’s the scuffle that had everyone talking. During a game between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, June 17, there were several heated moments between Sun guard Jacy Sheldon and Fever star Caitlin Clark.

The tension began when Clark was poked in the eye and then shoved by Sheldon. Moments later, Marina Mabrey pushed Clark to the ground. Despite many Fever fans shouting for Mabrey to be ejected, she remained in the game.

Later on, the Fever’s Sophie Cunningham committed a hard foul against Sheldon, seemingly in defense of Clark. Both she and Sheldon were then ejected.

The Indiana Fever ended up coming out victorious with a final score of 71 to 88.

In the days following the incident, clips of the scuffle have gone viral on social media, and Sheldon’s Instagram comments have been flooded by angry fans. Many of the comments question her talent as a player and compare her skill level to that of Clark’s and Cunningham’s.

“What do you do other than poke eyes and get cooked on defense?” wrote one person.

“Your behavior in this game is what they will show young athletes as an example of unsportsmanlike behavior,” wrote another.

“Suspension is what is needed,” a third person said.

Sheldon has yet to respond to the social media backlash.
