The Athletics and slugger Tyler Soderstrom have agreed to a seven-year, $86 million contract extension, according to ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan. The insider announced the news on Christmas Day.

The deal is the largest in Athletics' franchise history. The previous highest was the three-year, $67 million they gave Luis Severino last offseason.

Soderstrom's current deal included a club option for the eighth year. Moreover, escalators in the contract could max out the deal at $131 million.

BREAKING: Left fielder Tyler Soderstrom and the A's are in agreement on a seven-year, $86 million contract extension, the largest guarantee in franchise history, sources tell ESPN. The deal includes an eighth-year club option and has escalators that max it out at $131 million.

Soon after reports emerged about Soderstrom's contract extension, his Athletics teammates reacted on social media. Lawrence Butler and Jacob Wilson shared MLB's post about the contract on their Instagram stories.

Wilson dropped two emojis, a smiley face and a dollar sign, while Butler called it a Christmas gift.

Like Tyler Soderstrom, Buter debuted for the Athletics in 2023. However, he found his footing in the 2024 season, prompting the Athletics to lock him with a seven-year, $65.5 million contract before the 2025 season.

Meanwhile, Jacob Wilson enjoyed a successful debut season in 2025, earning an All-Star selection and finishing second behind teammate Nick Kurtz in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. Notably, Wilson's .301 was the second-best behind Aaron Judge in the AL.

Like Soderstrom, Wilson is also the son of a former MLB player. While Soderstrom's father, Steve, played for the Giants in 1996 for just 10 days, Wilson's father, Jack, played twelve MLB seasons.

Jack Wilson played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2001-2009), the Seattle Mariners (2009-2011) and the Atlanta Braves (2011-2012). He earned an All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award in 2004.

Tyler Soderstrom celebrates first Christmas as a married man

Like his professional career, 2025 was a success for Tyler Soderstrom in his personal career. The 24-year-old slugger married his longtime partner, Bailey Kindle, on Nov. 8 in Hawaii. The couple had been engaged since last November. The MLB slugger popped the big question at the beach.

On Thursday, Soderstrom's wife posted a three-snap post on Instagram highlighting their first Christmas celebration as a married couple. All pictures on the post featured Soderstrom, his wife, and their pet dog.

"merry christmas from the sodes 💌," she captioned the post.

Soderstrom's wife presently works as a marketing specialist at Fresh Vintage Farms. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship degree from Arizona State University. The couple has been in a relationship since at least 2019.
