Celebrity Hair Transformations: Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez & More!

When Jan. 1 rolls around, many will tout the phrase, “New year, new me.”

But there are plenty of stars who already decided to make some changes in 2024.

While they weren’t all major shifts, they still generated plenty of buzz. Take Jacob Elordi's new facial hair, for instance, or the beard Prince William grew this past summer. Although, the Prince of Wales admitted not everyone in the royal family is a fan of his new look.

“Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time,” William—who shares daughter Princess Charlotte as well as sons Prince George and Prince Louis with wife Kate Middleton—said while visiting Cape Town, South Africa Nov. 7, per People. “I got floods of tears, the first one I got tears, so I had to shave it off.”

Still, he noted he wasn’t going to bow down to the 9-year-old’s request.

"Then I grew it back,” William reportedly continued. "I thought, hang on a second, and I convinced her it was going to be OK."

Other celebrities opted for a different kind of hair transformation. Khloe Kardashian, for instance, switched from blonde to brunette tresses, and Austin Butler traded in his strands for a buzz cut. Zendaya also ruled the red carpet when she debuted bangs at Paris Fashion Week.

Some artists wanted to embark on a fitness journey. Like Jelly Roll, who’s spoken about losing more than 100 pounds and his goals for the future.

"I want to be on the cover of Men’s Health by March of 2026. That's the goal," the “Son of a Sinner” singer said on the Dec. 16 episode of his wife Bunnie XO's podcast Dumb Blonde. "That’s my new goal. I want to have one of the biggest transformations."

Before this year comes to an end, keep reading to learn about more stars’ transformations in 2024.

Pete Davidson

Live from New York it's Pete Davidson...with fewer tattoos.

After initially covering much of his arms with ink, the Saturday Night Live alum revealed his nearly bare limbs during a surprise appearance on the Nov. 2 episode of the sketch comedy show.

Although, perhaps fans shouldn't be too surprised by his tat removal as Pete has talked about the process before.

“I honestly never thought that I’d get an opportunity to act, and I love it a lot,” The King of Staten Island star said on a 2021 episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers. “It takes like three hours—you have to get there three hours earlier—to cover all your tattoos.”

And "burning them off," he continued, "is worse than getting them."

"Not only are they burning off your skin, but you’re wearing these big goggles so you can’t see anything and the doctor’s in there with you," Pete explained. "So before he goes to laser each tattoo, you have to hear him announce what the tattoo is to make sure if you want to keep it or not."

As he recalled his doctor asking, "'Are we keeping a Stewie Griffin smoking a blunt?’ And then I have to sit there and be like, 'No Dr. G.'"

Machine Gun Kelly

Another star to change up their body art? Machine Gun Kelly.

While the Grammy nominee initially had a variety of colorful tattoos up and down his arms, he later covered them up with solid black ink—debuting the transformation on Instagram in February and writing "for spiritual purposes only" before giving a shout-out to artist Roxx.

Megan Fox, who is expecting a baby with MGK amid breakup reports, previously shed some light on his thought process behind the design.

"He has a really special story behind why he did that, which obviously I'll leave for him to tell," the actress said on a March episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. "But he had a relationship with the tattoos that he had that he was very conflicted emotionally, whatever they represented—and I don't actually know—he didn't like to revisit those memories of some of those tattoos that he had and he wanted to get rid of them."

However, Megan suggested she's a fan of MGK's new ink, calling it "very art."

"It's like an elevated version of all of those tattoos that were pieced together," she added. "I think it's really elegant and it's ahead of its time. I think in 10 years that'll be a trend."

However, the Transformers star said she doesn't "know how many people can take that kind of pain"—adding the musician was awake and didn't receive any numbing.

Zendaya

When it comes to red carpet style, Zendaya is among the best in the game. The Challengers star served up another epic look for Paris Fashion Week in January, where she arrived at the Schiaparelli Haute Couture show in a silk crepe turtleneck with spikes, column skirt and new bangs.

Khloe Kardashian

Have you been keeping up with Khloe Kardashian's hairstyles?

While she's sported a variety of shades over the years, The Kardashians star transformed her blonde tresses to brown this year. As her sister Kourtney Kardashian put it in a Nov. 21 Instagram post in which Khloe showcased her brunette hair, "Stunning inside and out my sister."

Brittany Mahomes

While Brittany Mahomes is often seen rocking the red to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and her quarterback husband Patrick Mahomes, the fitness entrepreneur changed her hair to a fiery shade in April—noting on Instagram she was "feeling spicy."

However, the changeup was short lived as Brittany, who is growing her family's squad, currently expecting baby No. 3 with Patrick, has since switched back to blonde.

Garrett Josemans

Fans didn't turn a blind eye to Garrett Josemans' new look.

While the Love Is Blind star entered the pods with a short cut, he later grew out his longer locks.

"I've always had a latent interest in fashion,” Garrett, who wed Taylor Krause on the show, said at the reunion, which aired Oct. 30. “I think we all have lots of different latent interests. Being married to a very fashionable and beautiful woman, it just felt like I finally found somebody worth looking good for, worth paying attention to my looks. So, she opened up that door for me, and we're running with it."

Jelly Roll

"I want to be on the cover of Men’s Health by March of 2026. That's the goal," the country music star, who noted he's lost about 140 pounds, said on the Dec. 16 episode of his wife Bunnie XO's podcast Dumb Blonde. "That’s my new goal. I want to have one of the biggest transformations."

And Jelly Roll plans to share his experience along the way.

"I did this publicly for a reason," he continued. "I want to be honest about my struggles with it with people. I wore it for so long. I think that people that become big as I became, when they lose the weight, they’re kind of ashamed. They’re so ashamed that they go hide and lose the weight, and then they come back out and they don’t really know to interact with the world looking different or feeling different and they kinda gotta find their whole new way. I wanted to lose it in front of people."

But for the "Need a Favor" artist, the transformation is about more than the physical.

"I also got honest about looking at my food addiction as an addiction," he added. "I used to feel like it was such an injustice to real addicts to call food something you could be addicted to because I’ve seen people fight for their life on heroin. But, I’ve seen people fight for their life in their own body. And I started realizing that the same patterns that I had did towards drugs or alcohol at different times in my life was small compared to the consistent bad pattern I had with food."

Ellen DeGeneres

It appears Ellen DeGeneres has said goodbye to the U.S. and to her longtime blonde hair. Shortly after reports spread that she and wife Portia de Rossi moved to England, the comedian was spotted in the U.K. with a brunette 'do.

Austin Butler

Fans were all shook up when they saw Austin Butler's new look. The Elvis actor hit the red carpet with a cool buzz cut at the 2024 SFFILM Awards Night in San Francisco.

Tammy Slaton

Tammy Slaton has been documenting her weight loss journey.

"My life has been a rollercoaster," the 1000-Lb. Sisters star said in an Aug. 27 Instagram post, "and I’m proud to share that I’ve lost over 500 pounds."

And she's been candid about the process, which included bariatric surgery in 2022.

"I think I was trying to be so focused on losing weight I lost myself," Tammy continued in the Instagram video. "I lost who I was, and I turned to alcohol instead of food. At the same time, I was still eating. So, I was doing both. Damage in two different ways. It'd be so easy to fall back into bad habits and gain all the weight back, [but then] what was this all for? Waste of time, waste of money, waste of effort."

She also noted "it's not a diet, but rather a lifestyle change, and supported others who are on a similar path.

"I had a lot of demons, inner demons, that I had to fight, and I’m still fighting," the TLC celeb added. "You’re not alone. You can do anything once you put your mind to it. Never give up."

Kathy Bates

Before Kathy Bates was cast in Matlock, she set out on a personal journey.

"I’ve lost 100 pounds, and it all just coincided beautifully so that physically I’m capable of doing this show," she told People in a video shared Oct. 9. "I don’t have to sit down. I can stand up all day long and walk and move and breathe and do so many things that I couldn’t do before."

As the Oscar winner noted, she wanted to lose the weight for her health.

"I was diagnosed with diabetes," she added. "It runs in my family, and I’d seen what my father had gone through. He’d had a leg amputation. One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously. And it terrified me, and it just scared me straight. I thought, ‘I’ve got to do something.’ So I thought, ‘OK. I’ll give this a go.'"

Kathy said she changed what she ate and started using Ozempic. However, there's a point she wants to clarify.

"The last year and a half there’s been a lot of talk, 'Oh, she’s done this on Ozempic' and stuff," the Misery star continued. "And I just want to lay that to rest here. I lost about 80 pounds, and then the last 15 or 20 is always the hardest. So when Ozempic came out, I thought, OK, and I went to my doctor. She said, 'Let’s give this a go.' So I was able to do the last. But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me."
