The Green Bay Packers are in the midst of a push for the NFC North championship - something they haven't clinched since 2021 when they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs. The year prior, they made it to the NFC Championship Game, and they may have won had they signed a future Hall of Famer who wanted to go to Green Bay.
Joining the Pat McAfee Show, J.J. Watt said he wanted to join the Packers in 2020 when he was a free agent, but the Packers didn't have any interest.
"I wanted to play for the Packers in free agency," Watt said. "I wanted to go to Green Bay. They were not interested... that's where I wanted to go. I told my agents, 'I don't care what the number is, I don't care how low it is, tell me what it is so I can at least consider it.' I said, 'I'm not saying it's a guarantee to take it.' But I said if it's $2 million, if it's $4 million - whatever the number is, put it in front of me so that I can at least consider it against all these options. And they said, 'We can't get a number.'"
The Packers went to the NFC Championship Game in 2020 off the strength of Aaron Rodgers throwing 48 touchdowns and winning league MVP. They fell short of the Super Bowl, losing to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who then went on to beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
