'It's like he discovered love for the first time': After a year of keeping his distance, a shy porch cat finally trusts a couple enough to come inside and learn what it means to feel at home

Christmas time about 1+ years ago, this boy started showing up outside our place. He's been the only consistent kitty everyday. It took weeks for him not to run off when we'd bring food out. I had him TNRed a few months later.

We named him Ash. He is a shy boy. A whole year of him running off and then about a year ago he started slowly staying a distance. Hed be waiting on the porch or outside the door.

We made him a shelter and he would just lounge in it and around September (when we took Agent Tremor in) he started meowing at us. It took my husband and I by a huge welcome surprise. He

continued yelling at us everyday to give him food. He would start not running as often but guiding us to his feeding spot. Checking behind him to make sure we were coming. It was precious.

Christmas day, almost a year later, he let me pet him for the first time. I started crying. It was so so special. Then he would bop his head for pets, still skittish, instead of taking treats. It's like he discovered love for the first time.

We had a big blizzard rolling in January and he was increasingly meowing but not letting us get to close. So we devised a plan. But he let us pick him right up and bring him inside. Another miracle!

We had him isolated until the vet said he was all clear. He did test positive for FIV . He hid under the bed a lot but eventually started coming out and lounging.

We introduced him to our other cats. He still is shy and likes to run but he's really come out of his shell. He's quiet, loving the indoor life by sleeping next to the

I am trying to find a home for him but also I love him too much. Trust is a slow earned process with him but he's such a loving boy. Never had hissed or tried biting us once. I'm so glad he finally is safe.

West Engineering... Please try to keep him. Less stress for him over moving. him to a new home. It's you he's attached too. Thank you for caring about him.

  • He really feels like he’s meant to stay with you. After all that time, all those small steps, and the way he keeps coming closer, it just fits. Some cats make it pretty clear when they’ve chosen their people, and he’s doing exactly that. It doesn’t feel temporary anymore, it feels like he already knows this is home. Hard to imagine him ending up anywhere else at this point.

JaySticker He's a beautiful cat and looks very relaxed and at home. Thanks for caring for him.

  • He really looks at home now. Just chilling and not worried about anything anymore. The way he settles in and stays there says a lot. No more running off or keeping his distance. It feels like it finally clicked for him.

Quick-Leg3604 Congratulations on a successful domestication!!

  • Going from keeping distance outside to settling into indoor life like this is a big shift, and he handled it in his own time. It’s not a quick change, which makes it even better to see. You can tell he feels safe now, just by how relaxed he is. That kind of progress says everything. From cautious and unsure to comfortable and at ease, this is a solid glow-up!
